In recent years Chris has become an expert user of TTI’s market leading mooring analysis software Optimoor. Previously Chris worked as Design Manager for the Marine and Offshore Division of the Europe’s leading rope manufacturer. He is a graduate physicist who trained in rope making and design completing over twenty-six years’ service..
Major Accomplishments
HMPE MODU Tethers: - The development of HMPE offshore mooring tethers culminating in the first HMPE MODU mooring tether system offshore Indonesia.
High Performance Bend Fatigue Ropes for Traction Winches: - Development and application of the highest performing aramid and HMPE ropes in cyclic bend over sheave testing as part of the DISH JIP and associated projects.
OCIMF approval:-OCIMF approval for Nylon braidline and Superline mooring hawsers.
Climbing/Mountaineering: - Brought to market from concept a full range of climbing and mountaineering ropes.
Overall Experience
Chris runs approximately 100 Optimoor studies per year including ship-shore mooring analysis compatibility studies to OCIMF MEG3 criteria, ship-to-ship analyses, vessel wave motion response, dynamic analysis, spread moorings etc. for ship compatibility, berth design and accident investigations. Chris is also an Optimoor instructor running about 15 courses per year worldwide.
Chris has a very thorough and broad experience of the rope industry including the development of yachting and other leisure, industrial, military, fishing, marine and offshore synthetic ropes. Experience includes as well as designing and testing ropes, computer modelling rope designs and performance, costing, manufacturing, marketing, brochure creation and magazine article authoring, visiting customers, conferences, exhibitions, participating and running joint industry projects and field trials, developing strong relationships with customers and raw material manufacturers and participating in the creation of international EN and ISO specifications etc. Chris has assisted in lawsuits as an expert witness on failures of fibre ropes.
